Hello parents and guardians,

We are currently learning about families in the grade 4 French class and will be starting a family album project very shortly.

Please print off pictures of your immediate family, your extended family, activities done as a family, a celebration of the students choice and a member of the family the student would like to talk about in more detail.

They may also wish to bring more pictures to decorate their album or put on the front page.

Students are allowed to bring in their own albums or scrapbooks but it is not necessary.
This is a neat project to reinforce what we have been learning which can be kept for a lifetime.

We are starting a unit on family with the grade 4s.
We did a brain storming activity today to come up with “vocabulaire de famille”.
We will keep talking about this and eventually make an “album de famille” (family album).

We will be starting new units and projects with both grades.
As homework please have the students finish any worksheets they have not yet completed. (Grade 4s we have yet to correct the pluriel/singulier sheet)

Grade 4s should continue practicing classroom objects.
Grade 5s should research songs for their projects.
Both grades should explore this website and listen to the educational videos on this main page and on the educational music page.

I am seeing a lot of students have trouble with the question words, please have them watch the videos on the post below!!

The grade 4s were introduced to French question words. The grade 5s are also going over this concept.
I am posting 3 videos below to help the students with this concept (who, what, where, when, why, how- in French).
Both grades have also received a reference sheet with questions, pronouns, verbs, numbers, months, days of the week and a few extras. I am allowing students (for now) to use this reference sheet on tests.

Included in this page is an English to French online dictionary.
I was telling the students not to use google translate as they often make mistakes. As they know translating a full sentence in any translator is not a good idea since it literally translates word for word and does not always make sense. However, using this dictionary for individual words is a great tool for writing, reading comprehension and learning new vocabulary.

The page also includes verb help, a reading website, games for kids as well as French events around the city and Ontario.

I have updated the educational music page, took off the dead links and added the songs: O Canada, Bonjour, Alphabet, Assis et debout, Mon sac a dos, Arc en ciel (Colours).
There are now 15 songs instead of 11.

We have been working on this story for several weeks now. I want the grade 1 students to individually present this story to the class. I have decided to create a video with the images I have used for the story and added a narration that the students can follow along with.
